Good Genes REQUIRED to Beat the Mortality Odds

The life expectancy (at birth) of Congo is only 52 for men and 55 for women.  So it is with great fanfare and thanksgiving when you see a Congolese man or woman who has beat the odds.

Jim, my Congolese friend, invited me to his uncle's 80th birthday.  It was a celebration by the family and extended family members.

His aunt and uncle was dressed for the occasion.  The birthday boy was smartly dressed in a dark blue pin-striped suit, white shirt, tie, white gloves, and a black hat.  Both were in remarkable health for even Americans.  Therefore, it is OUTSTANDING and LONG SHOT for a Congolese.

Jim said longevity runs in his father side of the family.  Jim's father is within a couple of years of his brother.  Both men are not restricted in any way.  Jim's father still drives and handles family and tribal matters!
