QUESTION:
Hi Woody,
I believe you said you took a computer but it had to have an antenna to boost the satellite reception. How did you do that? We would like for our pastor to be able to have one also but without the antenna it is pretty useless. Where do they take it to get it charged? I am assuming it is wireless.
MY RESPONSE:
I used my laptop and used an internet-ready telephone with a USB connection to access the internet. I have not done anything with satellites. I have only used regular cellular services except for the fixed CODAN radio at the hospital. Today, we use the internet-ready telephone and computers for the internet. I used both Vodacom and Celtel for the internet. I have an unlocked world phone (GSM with quad-bands). So, I just removed my US carrier SIM card and replaced it with either the Vodacom or Celtel SIM card with voice and data services. AT&T and T-Mobile have world phone but you will have to unlock them yourself. No special antennas are needed.
Most computers are 220v/50hz capabilities for Congo. With the USB connection, it charges your phone at the same time. Therefore, you will have to find electricity or someone with a generator.
