In the past, I had accepted the killing of endangered or rare animals for food. However, elephants killed for their ivory is unacceptable.
I have never seen a wild or caged animal in the Congo. No elephants, no tigers, no lions, ... Last year, I saw a python, or some type of large snake, head being sold for its meat. Also, I have seen some mystery meat which could have been gorilla or something.
When you have seen people starving or suffering from malnutrition, you look at animals and their meat differently. The people of Congo do not have very much meat in their diets. The sight of extreme poverty and hunger changes your perspective.
I value the life of a human being over the life of an animal. But elephants and other animals should not be killed for their ivory, furs, hides, etc.

Rangers in the Democratic Republic of Congo believe that rising demand for ivory in China is to blame for an unprecedented wave of elephant poaching in one of the country's war-torn national parks.
Fourteen elephants have been slaughtered in as many days as government soldiers and militias use ivory to raise money for guns. Conservationists believe that the ivory is being smuggled from Virunga National Park through Uganda and Burundi en route to China.
PRAYER:
Dear Loving Father, you put us in change of birds, fishes, animals, and plants for our use and survival. Remind of their purpose and use. AMEN.
