Yesterday was Treat or Trick here in the states. That's not a practice in the Congo. Quite frankly, the Congolese have been treated enough.
I have asked about Treat or Trick in Congo. The person asked just look at me like I was crazy. Or that I have spoken Greek instead of English.
However, that does not stop us from carrying candies to the kids in our village of Bulape. We have found that Congolese kids like candy, too.
In a rural poor village like Bulape, kids do not see a lot of candy. So, you may have to show the kid that it is something to eat. You have to unwrap and put the candy in your mouth. Finally, you have to slowly chew the candy. It is not a good idea to take soft chewable candies instead of hard candy made for sucking.
Candy is not nutritional or belly-filling but it is a nice unexpected treat for the kids. The parents love the candies, too.
