Most of you have seen the hard hat areas. Normally, the hard hats are meant to protect you from falling objects. In rural Congo, hard hats are not needed. But some construction warning tape would be highly advised.
When a Congolese build a new house, they must gather the necessary building materials. One of those building materials is dirt. Not sand for cement, but just plain old dirt. The dirt is mixed with water to make mud to build the walls of the house.
So, you have to watch out for big holes in the ground near building sites in rural Congo. The holes will be filled over the years with trash or refuse. Probably about the time the hole is full, it's time to build another house.
