Tradition versus Outdated

There is a difference between being traditional and being outdated.  Tradition is good.  It is something to hold onto, remember, practice, and do often.  Outdated is bad.  It is someting to stop doing, get rid of, prohibit, and forget.

Think about maternal health care.  The tradition of breastfeeding is good.  Use of untrained and ill-equipped midwives is bad.

In rural Congo, sometimes tradition is confused with outdated.
